Prince's ex-wife has 2 book signings in the Twin Cities this week

Mayte Garcia married Prince in 1996. She has a new book called The Most Beautiful: My Life with Prince.

Prince's first wife will be in the Twin Cities this week, signing copies of her book The Most Beautiful: My Life with Prince.

When she was a teenager, Mayte Garcia met Prince at a concert in Germany. According to her website bio, she passed a tape of her belly dancing to one of his songs to his band, the New Power Generation. When she turned 18, he asked her to join NPG.

They married in 1996, and filed for divorce four years later.

Her relationship with the secretive superstar is the subject of the book, which arrived April 4. She's holding two signings in the Twin Cities this week.

On Tuesday, Garcia will be at Subtext Books in St. Paul. She'll do a reading and signing, with the event set to being at 7 p.m. Tickets are $30 and include a copy of the book – you can get those here.

And the next day she'll be at Mall of America, doing a signing at 6 p.m. in the rotunda area. For that one, you have to buy a copy of her book from the Barnes and Noble there in order to get it signed – no other items or copies of the memoir purchased elsewhere are allowed. The number of wrist bands available is limited, and the mall will start giving them out at 4 p.m. You can see more details here.

Reviews and articles praise Garcia for being quite open throughout The Most Beautiful: My Life with Prince.

According to the Daily Mail, she writes that they became sexually intimate when she was 19 years old, and that he was critical of her wardrobe and weight. She also says the death of their newborn son in 1996 sent their marriage into a tailspin that never recovered, People wrote.

You can see buying options for the book here.
