Prince's record label files copyright complaint against Twitter's video platform

Minneapolis music legend Prince has filed a DMCA copyright complaint against Twitter's Vine video platform over content allegedly hosted by the service, The Next Web reports.

DMCA stands for the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, which was signed into law in 1998.

In a complaint filed March 22, a representative of NPG Records informed Twitter that eight video clips on Vine contained "unauthorized recordings" and "unauthorized synchronizations."

"We hereby request that you immediately remove our content right video clips from the platform," the representative stated in the complaint.

NPG -- which is short for the Prince's former band New Power Generation -- is a 20-year-old record label owned by the musician.

Although Twitter didn't comment on the request, The Next Web reports that the links to the Vine clips were included in the request no longer lead to playable videos, which implies the company complied with the complaint.

Prince has been dominating the headlines this year, from his open rehearsals in the Dakota Jazz Club in January and high-profile appearance at the Grammys in February, to his smashing performance on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" and electrifying concert to shut down SXSW in Austin, Texas, last month.

Not all of the news has been positive, though. He was slammed on Twitter for tossing and breaking the guitar he borrowed from The Roots' Kirk Douglas at the conclusion of the "Fallon" performance.
