Prince's star at First Avenue is now gold

First Avenue's exterior wall of silver stars has a new, gilded addition.

Prince's star, a memorial spot since the singer's death on April 21, is now painted gold. The Minneapolis venue periodically updates its walls with stars commemorating the many world-famous musicians who've performed there. But it seems this was not an official job.

"Somebody did a guerrilla paint job," First Avenue employee Daniel Corrigan told BringMeTheNews.

The addition comes ahead of Wednesday evening's "Nothing Compares 2 U" listening event.

Radio stations across the country will simulcast Prince's version of "Nothing Compares 2 U," written in the mid-1980s and later popularized by Sinead O'Connor. The time was chosen based upon the song's opening lyric, "It's been 7 hours and 13 days."

Stations will play the song at 5:07 p.m. – exactly 13 days and 7 hours since Prince was pronounced dead at his Paisley Park home.

BringMeTheNews has reached out to First Avenue for further comment.
