Radio host Barb Abney is out at 89.3 The Current

Just days after the 89.3 the Current radio service celebrated its 10th anniversary with several days of high-profile events, managers there dismissed Barb Abney, one of its better known radio hosts.

Abney, who could be heard on the station weekdays from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., was let go Tuesday afternoon, the Star Tribune reports.

The Current, an alternative rock station that is heard primarily in the Twin Cities and Rochester, Minn., and also has a large online following, is run by nonprofit Minnesota Public Radio in St. Paul.

An MPR spokeswoman told the Star Tribune Abney's dismissal was “a programming decision made by the Current's management.” No other reasons were given by the station.

Jade Tittle, who produces the station's morning show and does late-night announcing, will replace Abney in the midday spot, according to the Star Tribune.

The Current's 10th anniversary celebration culminated in two sold-out concerts at First Avenue last weekend, and Abney was on stage for one of them.

Abney came to The Current in 2006 from Cincinnati's, where she had been an on-air personality for 12 years. While there, she "built a radio and online community of music nerds," Abney writes on her Facebook page.

Abney's fans were quick to express their disappointment.
