Minneapolis rapper P.O.S. will have kidney transplant surgery on Thursday, City Pages reports. The rapper, whose real name is Stefon Alexander, announced the news in a video recorded with his colleagues at their music collective Doomtree.

Alexander, 32, said the transplant is scheduled for Thursday, and the donor is a friend of his. He did not identify the donor or the hospital where the procedure will take place.

Alexander announced in October 2012 that he had kidney disease and needed a transplant.

"Both of my kidneys are garbage," he said at the time. "I had some kind of unidentified trauma when I was 13 or 14, something that triggered scarring in my kidneys. It could've been a bad fall, skateboarding or whatever."

Alexander announced then that had to curb his touring schedule because he could not have dialysis treatments on the road.

His Doomtree collaborators set up a crowdsourced fundraising campaign on YouCaring.com to help Alexander cover his medical bills, and it raised $42,687.

In the new video, Alexander thanked his fans and friends for supporting him over the past two years.

"All the support on the Internet, all the support when you see me, everybody who's had a transplant and come up to me and told me how happy and healthy they are .. thanks, I'll be back."

Alexander said if his recovery goes as planned, he will be able to perform again in the fall.

Here's Alexander's Tuesday announcement on YouTube, with members of Doomtree with him. Note: Contains some profanity.

Here's his October 2012 announcement, when he disclosed his health problems.
