Rocker Jack White plays last-minute concert in Fargo tonight

Music fans in Fargo got a surprise Sunday morning when rock star Jack White announced he will perform in the city Sunday night as part of a farewell tour.

But many of his fans already predicted he'd make his first stop in North Dakota, and were in line bright and early Sunday morning to get tickets to the concert, the Fargo Forum reports.

White, the former White Stripes front man, said he's performing in states where he hasn't yet played before he takes a long break from performing live. His fans had been expecting a show in Fargo, because he had never played in North Dakota before.

The Forum notes the White Stripes scheduled a concert in the city in 2007 but the show was cancelled, and the band split up after that.

Several hundred people lined up outside the ticket office in downtown Fargo early Sunday morning, with the first one in line shortly after bar time at 2 a.m., according to the Forum. And by 8 a.m. the crowd had grown to 500 or so.

The $3 tickets went on sale at noon, and about 800 seats are available for the show at the Fargo Theatre.

White played another surprise concert in Rapid City, S.D. on Friday night, which was also sold out, MPR News reports.

White has already played acoustic shows in Idaho, Wyoming and Alaska. North Dakota, the Forum reported, is White's final stop.

Doors open at 7 p.m. and music starts at 8:30 p.m. The concert will also be live streamed onTidal, so even those who didn't get a ticket can still watch the show, according to the Forum.
