Shake Shack is looking to continue its expansion in the Twin Cities by opening a fourth location.
The burger chain first landed in Minnesota in 2016, when it opened its doors at the Mall of America's Culinary on North food hall.
It's since opened new locations at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and next to the Southdale Center in Edina.
Now it has its eyes on the north metro, with plans afoot to open a new restaurant at The Shoppes at Arbor Lakes in Maple Grove.
A proposal for a 3,500 square-foot standalone restaurant was submitted to the Maple Grove Planning Commission. It was discussed at a meeting on Monday evening, with commission members voting to move the plans on to the full city council.
The restaurant will include an outdoor patio but will not feature a drive-thru, unlike near Portillo's, which opened in 2018.
It will be situated between the Red Lobster and Portillo's, fronting onto Elm Creek Boulevard.
It's part of The Shoppes at Arbor Lakes' wider revitalization plans, with the mall having recently completed a revamp that added a road and additional sidewalk seating through its previously pedestrianized central thoroughfare.
It's also working on building a new co-working office space to attract daytime users to the mall.
