Some lucky Minnesotans got 60-degree weather today

Friday's highs "obliterated" state record highs.

Spring, is that you?

Sunny skies and little to no snow on the ground helped push temperatures across southwestern Minnesota to record-breaking highs Friday afternoon. Marshall and Windom were among the communities that hit 60 degrees.

With temperatures 20-30 degrees above average for this time of year, Friday's highs "obliterated" the statewide record high for Feb. 10, the Minnesota State Climatology Office wrote on Facebook. The previous record high for this date was 57 degrees, set in Luverne in 1977.

It's not clear what the new statewide record will be just yet, with the climatology office noting it will report Friday's high temperatures from its 150-plus weather observers Saturday morning.

Many cities were also close to (or did) break record highs for this date. Here's a look at the previous records for Feb. 10 across southern and western Minnesota:

The average temperature for the Twin Cities for Feb. 10 is 27 degrees, meteorologist Mark Seeley wrote on his weather blog.

Friday's above-average temperatures are expected to stick around for the rest of the month, the National Weather Service says. Expect temperatures in the 30s and 40s in southern Minnesota this weekend and into next week, but then things will warm up again, with 50s possible by the weekend of Feb. 17.
