Sorry, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis couldn't make it home today

They were supposed to kick off Super Bowl events in Minneapolis.

A pair of Minneapolis music legends were supposed to be in town to announce a series of free concerts on Friday, but they've been waylaid by a stroke of bad luck.

The appearance of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis – the Grammy-winning music producers who, along with Prince, created the "Minneapolis Sound" – was intended to be part of an event marking a 100-day countdown until the Super Bowl.

But their flight from Los Angeles, where they now reside, was delayed due to "plane issues," the Current reported

The station says their visit is now on hold, possibly for "a couple of weeks."

According to the Star Tribune, Jam and Lewis were scheduled to announce that they'll be curating the free concert lineup happening during the Super Bowl LIVE festival, a 10-day bash leading up to the big game.

In other words, they'll be booking the bands.

The Star Tribune says the producers also would've been part of the kickoff ceremony officially launching the countdown to Feb. 4, 2018, the day Super Bowl LII (52) happens.

But the show seems to have gone on without them, judging by Twitter updates from the IDS Center, where Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges and other officials gathered before reporters Friday morning:

Jam and Lewis were born and raised in Minneapolis, attending high school together, and later forming the band that would go on to become The Time, AllMusic says.

After a stint touring for Prince in the early '80s, the two went on to become moguls in their own right, and have since produced 16 No. 1 hits. They were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame this year
