Gavin Kaysen, the owner and chef at Minneapolis' hottest new restaurant Spoon and Stable, has coached Team USA into culinary history.

Team USA placed second of 24 teams at the Bocuse d'Or World Cooking Contest, which is often called the "culinary Olympics" – making it the first time the U.S. has made it in the top five in the competition's 28-year history, Grub Street notes.

Team USA finished behind Norway in the five and a half hour cooking competition. Sweden placed third.

The Bocuse d'Or was created in 1987 and is held every two years in Lyon, France. It's one of the most prestigious international competitions in the world.

John Kraus, the head chef at Minneapolis' Patisserie 46, led his team to a third place finish at the 2015 international pastry-making competition, the Coupe du Monde de la Patisserie, which was also held in France this month, the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal reports.
