Stillwater's first new hotel in 23 years is nearing completion

The 40-bedroom hotel called Lora opens next month.

Bookings are now being taken for a new, 40-room boutique hotel in downtown Stillwater, that's set to open next month.

Called Lora, the hotel can be found at the south end of Stillwater's famous Main Street, which was the former home of the Joseph Wolf Brewery.

It's the first Midwest property for Portland, Oregon-based Provenance Hotels, which has renovated the building and announced on Monday it's taking bookings for stays starting June 18 and beyond.

You can check out its selection of rooms and suites on its website, but be warned that it's not a cheap stay – its introductory room rates start at $275-per-night.

It also offers a two-room "Empire Suite," which comes with a private patio, a "deep soaking bathtub" and a sitting area overlooking Main Street.

It'll be the first new hotel to open in Stillwater since 1995, when the Water Street Inn was built, according to the Pioneer Press, and it comes amid some wider changes happening in Minnesota's old capital.

Following in its wake will be another boutique hotel that's planned by the Twin Cities-based After Midnight Group, which owns bars including the Cowboy Jack's chain.

It's planning a $16 million, 64-room hotel on Main Street along with a restaurant and cafe.

And it was reported this past week that the same company has bought the former Brine's restaurant and bar, with a view to re-opening it next month, the Business Journals reports.

A little further out of town, Lift Bridge Brewery has identified a site for the construction of its new brewery and taproom.
