Target leads the way when it comes to tantalizing offers for shoppers.

Whether its the 5 percent RedCARD discounts or the 15 percent off Cyber Monday deals (that one year even included in-store shopping), Target knows how to get headlines with its offers.

And another of Target's popular promotions, the annual holiday 10 percent discount on gift card purchases, will be happening this Sunday.

The company on Tuesday confirmed its one-day only offer on gift cards valued at up to $300, which is available to customers both in store and at Target.com

The offer is attractive for anyone planning to give gift cards as Christmas gifts this year, something more than half of American consumers plan to do.

But it's also a great way to save if you're a regular Target shopper, effectively buying yourself some free money.

For example, you could buy a $200 gift card for $180, and then use it to pay for your groceries on a future visit.

There are some rules to the 10 percent gift card offer you should be aware of, and here they are:

– You can't use your REDcard to get an extra 5% off when buying a gift card.

– Gift cards you buy on Sunday can't be used until 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 3.

– The offer does not include Target Visa Gift Cards, Target MasterCard Gift Cards, Target American Express Gift Cards and other gift cards for dining, lifestyle and entertaining.

– The limit is $300 of gift cards per household.
