Target is launching a new line of plant-based products, including both meat and milk alternatives, as part of its growing Good & Gather grocery brand.
Good & Gather Plant Based will include more than 30 items in all, Target said in its announcement, with some currently available and others being introduced into the fall. The company says most of the items will cost less than $5.
Some of the new products include:
- Frozen chick'n tenders
- Meatless meatballs
- Non-dairy creamer
- Vegan mayonnaise
- Chocolate-flavored mousse
- Everything-seasoned cashew dip
Rick Gomez, executive vice president and chief food and beverage officer for Target, noted "demand for plant-based offerings is incredibly high and continues to grow."
And the increase in sales of plant-based food at retail stores has been one of the main grocery trends in recent years. In 2020, sales of plant-based goods at retail stores hit $7 billion, a growth rate of 27%. Plant-based meat, specifically, hit $1.4 billion in sales last year, as brands such as Impossible and Beyond continued their rise.
Good & Gather has also been a hit for Target. Since being introduced in 2019, the company's flagship grocery line has become the store's top-selling food brand. Target says Good & Gather generated $2 billion in sales in 2020.
