For the best barbecue in Minnesota, look no further than Revival's second location, in St. Paul.
Revival originally opened a few years ago in south Minneapolis, winning countless plaudits for its delicious, southern-style fried chicken and sumptuous burger.
But restaurateurs Thomas Boemer and Nick Rancone changed things up as they expanded to St. Paul, with its location on Selby Avenue focusing more heavily on barbecue.
The change seems to be paying off according to Food & Wine magazine, which on Thursday named Revival's St. Paul restaurant as having the best barbecue in Minnesota.
The magazine picked out the best BBQ fare in every state, breaking them up into three categories based on their quality.
Revival finds itself in the second tier, named "Rising Stars," which is pretty darn good considering that Minnesota is about as far away from barbecue country as you can get.
Food & Wine recommends Revival's dinner-only butter ribs, which are chef-turned-pitmaster Boemer's signature dish.
The magazine describes them as "smoky, nicely-rubbed ribs, dipped in butter and spice mix for a final, over-the-top flourish."
It also recommends the pastrami served on Mondays as well.
"If it's not Monday, wait patiently for the following Monday, when there will typically be pastrami again," it says.
