The Butcher's Tale opens this week in former Butcher and the Boar spot
The new smoked meats and bourbon restaurant in the former Butcher and the Boar space will officially open on Wednesday, May 12.
The Butcher's Tale, by Kaskaid Hospitality (Crave, Brit's Pub), offers a "fresh approach" to the artisanal meats of the culinary world by chef Peter Botcher — the original head butcher at the Butcher and the Boar, the restaurant says.
“I am thrilled to be back home in what I consider ‘my OG kitchen’,” Botcher said in a statement. “We’ve put together a menu that improves on the traditional favorites I created — including sausages, smoked meats, ribs, and charcuterie. Guests will also see more offerings on the menu — more market-fresh seafood, sides and salads. It’s all here, and I couldn’t be more excited."
Butcher and the Boar's former general manager Chad Waldon will be handling the front-of-house operations at The Butcher's Tale.
Here's the menu, which features sides like whole hog mac and cheese, red hot Brussels sprouts and fried green tomatoes; meats that include ribs, pork chops steaks and vegan spare ribs, as well as jerk grilled swordfish, salmon and scallops; appetizers like sausages, charcuterie and smoked jalapenos.
Bourbon and brown spirits anchor the cocktail menu, which also includes various wines, ciders, hard seltzers and a range of styles of beer, from local brews to national favorites.
The restaurant, at at 1121 Hennepin Ave. in Minneapolis, features a 10,000-square-foot indoor dining area as well as the popular 4,000-square-foot patio and beer garden.
The beer garden opens at 4 p.m. that day, followed by the dining room at 5 p.m. Here is the restaurant's website, where you can make reservations through Open Table and eventually order takeout and delivery.
Butcher and the Boar closed for good last year amid the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Jester Concepts (P.S. Steak, Borough/Parlour, Constantine) announced in February it bought the rights to the name of the restaurant and plans to bring it back. It hasn't announced an opening date or location for the return of the restaurant.
So to clarify: Kaskaid has bought The Butcher and the Boar's building, and with the help of its original head butcher – whose name is Botcher – and the former general manager Chad Waldon are opening a very similar restaurant called The Butcher's Tale. Jester Concepts bought The Butcher and the Boar's name, and will bring it back somewhere else in the city.
