The Dixie Chicks will play the State Fair Grandstand next year.

The State Fair said Monday morning the mega-successful country trio from Dallas will play the Grandstand on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $57 and $67, all of it reserved seating, and will go on sale Friday, Nov. 20 at 10 a.m. through Etix.

The Dixie Chicks have sold more than 30 million records, Rolling Stone says, and have won a dozen Grammy Awards.

The 41-date MMXVI tour is something of a return for the band – made up of vocalist Natalie Maines, guitarist Emily Robison Strayer, and violinist Martie Maguire – which has been mostly out of the American spotlight in recent years.

Entertainment Weekly notes that, while the group has played some shows in the U.S. in the past decade, the trio hasn't hit the road as a headliner since 2006.

That's mainly because of the public fallout that buried the band in early 2003 – when, during a concert in London just days before the U.S. invaded Iraq, Maines said: "We don't want this war, this violence, and we're ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas." That led to a swift backlash from the American audience and country music scene, including the banishment of their songs from some radio stations, Songbird Mag explained.

The trio toured for a bit longer, and released a record that won a Grammy in 2007. But then broke up, MPR News writes.

That was more than 12 years ago now, but Country Outfitter Life still asks: "Is country music ready to forgive the Dixie Chicks?"
