The "Sundance Kid" is coming to the Walker Art Center this fall.

The Walker announced Wednesday Robert Redford will be the next guest at the museum's Dialogue and Retrospective Series – an annual event that welcomes filmmakers for a one-on-one discussion and a screening of the artist's films.

The whole thing is actually six weeks, and builds up to the one-on-one with Redford in November. Here's a look at both parts.

The series begins Sept. 30 with a look at Redford's work – which spans over half a century.

Redford became a star after his role in the 1969 western "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid."

He went on to become a very successful actor, director, and producer and founded the Sundance Institute for independent filmmakers.

The Walker said it will not announce what they are screening for the Redford retrospective until this summer. But in past years, it has shown rare and archival prints as well as newer films – in November 2013, audiences got to see the Midwest premiere of Steve McQueen's "Twelve Years a Slave."

Redford has a couple upcoming projects – he will play Grace's father in the 2016 remake of "Pete's Dragon," and he also stars in "The Discovery" coming out next year.

Dialogue: An intimate discussion

The Walker's Assistant Director Meredith Kessler told BringMeTheNews the dialogue portion of the event is comparable to "Inside the Actor's Studio" – a one-on-one discussion on stage in front of an audience, featuring clips from Redford's films, anecdotes, and personal insights into his creative process.

Redford will be interviewed by someone in the film industry, Kessler said.

The audience will also have the opportunity to ask questions.

About the program

Tickets for the retrospective screenings go on sale in August, while tickets for the dialogue will go on sale in September. The Walker says more details will be released in the summer.

The first Dialogue and Retrospective Series was in 1990, featuring Clint Eastwood as the guest. Since then, they've had directors, actors and filmmakers including Jodie Foster, Danny Glover, Tom Hanks and Spike Lee.
