The local theater community is gathering to rally around the director of marketing and theatrical programming for the Hennepin Theatre Trust.

The Pioneer Press reports that several of Carl Lee's theater friends are gathering to stage "Voices of Hope: A Musical Benefit for the Carl Lee Family" at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres' Fireside Stage on July 29.

Lee, 52, beat Hodgkin's disease as a teenager, but the radiation therapy has caused him health problems throughout his life, including three heart surgeries. He is reportedly hospitalized once again and seriously ill.

Chanhassen vice president Tamara Kangas Erickson organized the concert, which will also include a silent auction.

Broadway World Minneapolis says Tony Vierling, who is now appearing in the Chanhassen's production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," is programming the concert, which will feature more than 20 local performers.

Erickson told the Pioneer Press that the show will move from the 236-seat Fireside Stage to the Main Stage if tickets continue to sell.

Tickets (a suggested $25 donation) are available at the Chanhassen and can also be purchased online.

Lee is married to Emmy Award-winning choreographer and veteran Broadway and Chanhassen performer Linda Talcott-Lee, and the couple have two teenage daughters.

Talcott-Lee told the Pioneer Press that it's "overwhelming in a good way that people would come forward with this kind of support."
