This week in music: Depeche Mode, Train, MN Music On-a-Stick among State Fair acts

The Minnesota State Fair Grandstand will keep hopping this week with several more national acts, along with a grouping of some homegrown musicians.

The week kicks off with return of the "Happy Together" tour to the Great Minnesota Get-Together Monday, featuring several hitmakers from the '60s and '70s.

The lineup includes The Turtles with Flo & Eddie, former Three Dog Night singer Chuck Negron, Minnesota native Garry Puckett & the Union Gap, Gary Lewis & the Playboys, and former Paul Revere & the Raiders singer Mark Lindsay.

Tuesday night darts ahead to the '80s, with synth-pop band Depeche Mode, while on Thursday, Train -- which has had hits dating back to 1998 until now -- hits the Grandstand stage.

Friday night will feature all local artists with MN Music On-a-Stick, with Duluth bluegrass band Trampled by Turtles, and from Minneapolis, classic rockers The Suburbs, rapper P.O.S., pop-folk singer Mason Jennings and female hip-hop trio The Chalice.

The weekend in music at the Grandstand wraps up with hit rap act Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, who will play Sunday.

Also at the Grandstand this week is the Walker Art Center's Internet Cat Video Festival on Wednesday, and the Minnesota State Fair Amateur Talent Contest Finals on Sunday.

Continuing this week at the fair are 12 stages of free acts going providing music and entertainment for the duration of the fair. Among the major acts this week are Hanson Monday and Tuesday, Sheila E Wednesday and Thursday, Robert Randolph & The Family Band Friday and Saturday, and Larry Gatlin & The Gatlin Brothers Sunday.

Also coming in concert this week:

Legendary singer Diana Ross plays the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis Wednesday, while '80s and '90s hitmaker Kenny Loggins will appear at the State Theatre Friday.

Wrapping up this summer's Music in the Zoo concert series at the Weesner Family Amphitheater at the Minnesota Zoo this week are Elvin Bishop on Wednesday and Jerry Jeff Walker on Thursday.

Comedy acts coming in concert this week include Eddie Griffin, who is leading the Labor Comedy Explosion at the Pantages Theatre in Minneapolis Friday. The show also includes comedians Luenell, Jay Lamont and Honest John.
