Tickets sold in Iowa, New York win $687 million Powerball because Minnesota never wins

Minnesota never wins!
Publish date:

Gone are your chances of winning close to a billion dollars, all thanks to two of the luckiest people alive who had winning tickets in Saturday night's massive Powerball drawing.

We're happy for the people in Iowa and New York that matched all five numbers – 8, 12, 13, 19, 27 and Powerball 4 – but it still stings that we didn't win it. We had big plans, man.

The exact locations the winning tickets were sold are yet to be announced, but odds are it happened just across the border because Minnesota never gets lucky and having it happen just across the border would be so us.

We can rest a little easier knowing that the jackpot wasn't the $750 million Powerball estimated it to be. Instead, it was only $687.8 million, also known as: chump change.

And the lump sum cash option on that is only $396 million, so they only have enough to live a handful of lifetimes. Sad.

There were 13 tickets that matched five numbers to win $1 million, but none of those were sold in Minnesota. Maybe you, somewhere in our unlucky state, have one of the 155 tickets that won $50,000 by matching four numbers and the Powerball.
