Top Ten Liquors plots a new high-end wine bar, grocery spot in Minnetonka
Top Ten Liquors is eyeing Minnetonka for its next location.
A planning document recently submitted to the city proposes turning the former Champps restaurant at 1641 Plymouth Road into Top Ten Liquors' latest vision.
It's billed as a "high-end wine bar and grocery destination." That means there will be a by-the-glass wine bar, taking up about 2,250 square feet, situated alongside a 1,400-square-foot grocery section (think gourmet items and cheese) and a 7,500-square-foot wine and spirits shop that is "completely distinct" physically from the rest of the destination.
Top Ten Liquors writes in the proposal: "To the best of our knowledge this is a new and unique concept in the State of Minnesota."
The company currently has a dozen liquor stores dotted around the Twin Cities.
The city council will discuss the liquor licenses needed at an Oct. 4 meeting, with the planning commission then set to meet 10 days later. And things remain on schedule, the city council will hold a vote on Nov. 8.
