Oscar-winning filmmaker Alexander Payne's new drama "Nebraska" kicks off the Twin Cities Film Fest Thursday night at the ShowPlace ICON Theatre in St. Louis Park, the Star Tribune reports.

The film is one of the marquee presentations of potential Oscar nominees playing during the 10-day festival. Also on tap are the historical drama “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom” (Oct. 25); and Meryl Streep-Julia Roberts drama “August: Osage County” (Oct. 26).

The festival will also mark the Twin Cities premiere of the horror thriller "Delivery" (Oct. 25), a found-footage thriller from Woodbury natives Adam Schindler and Brian Netto, who are based in Los Angeles.

"We love the idea to come back home and show family and friends what we've been doing for the last couple years and spending our time," Netto told BringMeTheNews this week. "It's really going to be a pretty exciting moment to share our film with everyone."

Other Twin Cities natives returning home for the festival include actress Brianna Brown, who stars in the comedy romance "Screwed." Earlier this year Brown landed a starring role in the Lifetime TV comedy drama "Devious Maids."

Brown's co-star in "Screwed" is Cottage Grove native Kurt David Anderson, who is also coming in for the festival.

"Screwed" screens Saturday night.

The TCFF will also premiere 20 locally-produced features and short films, including the critically acclaimed comedy drama “Pollywogs,” shot in the northern part of Minnesota by Virginia native Karl Jacob.

In all, 75 films will be shown over the festival's duration.

Festival director Jatin Setia tells Star Tribune that the numbers have been surging the TCFF in the past couple of years. He says attendance grew 60 percent last year for total attendance of 3,600 theater-goers, and this advance sales indicate that this year's festival will break that record.
