Twin Cities in top 10 'Best Places to Live' in the United States

Life ain't so bad here.

The Twin Cities is now one of the top 10 metro areas to live in the United States.

That's according to U.S. News, which on Tuesday released its "Best Places to Live 2018" rankings that has seen Minneapolis-St. Paul sneak into the top 10.

It's 9th out of the 125 metro areas in this year's rankings, which are determined based on a number of quality of life, job market, cost of living and desirability factors.

Last year it placed 17th, with its improvement this year explained by a steadily growing job market, affordability and because it's viewed by more people as a desirable place to live.

Its high median wage of around $55,000, coupled with an average house price of just over $237,000, means it also ranks 9th in U.S. News' rankings for the "Best Affordable Places to Live," which were also released on Tuesday.

The data shows that metro residents spend only around 25 percent of their household income on housing.

The "Best Place to Live" this year is Austin, Texas, U.S. News says, with Huntsville, Alabama the best for affordability.

Our neighbor to the south, Des Moines, ranked higher than the Twin Cities in both tables, finishing 3rd in both.
