A new festival held in Shakopee last July is in the running to be named the "Best Emerging Festival" by the readers of USA Today.

Twin Cities Summer Jam emanated for the first time from Canterbury Park, with headliners including Aerosmith, Pitbull and Tim McGraw among the headliners.

The event, organized by among others KFAN host Chris Hawkey, is currently second in a USA Today 10Best vote for the best new festival, after being one of 20 events selected by a panel of experts.

Twin Cities Summer Jam is gearing up for its second festival from July 23-25, with Carrie Underwood, the Zac Brown Band, Nelly, Third Eye Blind and Pitbull (again) among the names announced for this year's event.

There were some teething issues at the inaugural event, namely as a result of Friday headliners Aerosmith demand that the VIP area be opened up to general admission ticket holders so the crowd could be next to the stage.

This in turn angered fans who had paid for VIP tickets, with the VIP section also opened up for the Saturday night headline show by McGraw.
