An American Olympic skier will return to the United Sates with 90 dogs he's rescuing from a dog farm in South Korea.

Gus Kenworthy, a freestyle skier, along with his boyfriend, actor Matthew Wilkas, are teaming up with the Humane Society International to bring all 90 dogs from a dog farm that is shutting down back to the U.S.

Humane Society International estimates that there are 17,000 dog farms in Korea, and some feature disturbing living conditions, which Kenworthy described in unsettling fashion in his Instagram post:

"The dogs here are malnourished and physically abused, crammed into tiny wire-floored pens, and exposed to the freezing winter elements and scorching summer conditions. When it comes time to put one down it is done so in front of the other dogs by means of electrocution sometimes taking up to 20 agonizing minutes. Despite the beliefs of some, these dogs are no different from the ones we call pets back home."

Here's Kenworthy's full Instagram post.

According to CBS, at least 2 million dogs are slaughtered and eaten in Korea every year. Eating dog meat is part of the Korean culture, and it's been that way for thousands of years, but Kenworthy, although he disagrees with it, doesn't think it's his place to impose American ideals on the Korean culture.

"And, while don't personally agree with it, I do agree that it's not my place to impose western ideals on the people here," he wrote in his post. "The way these animals are being treated, however, is completely inhumane and culture should never be a scapegoat for cruelty."

Kenworthy saved five dogs from Russia after he won the silver medal during the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
