A foggy morning on the Skyline Parkway in Duluth.

In "this is why we can't have nice things" news, a portion of Skyline Parkway in Duluth has reopened to vehicles earlier than planned after continued vandalism.

West Skyline Parkway and Hank Jensen Drive from Two Ponds to Enger Park Golf Course were supposed to remain closed until June 1 as a way to give pedestrians and bicyclists more space.

But "due to continued issues of barricades and sandbags being thrown off of Skyline Parkway, the City has made the decision to reopen this portion of Skyline ahead of the June 1 reopening," the city said in a news release

The roadway reopened to vehicles Monday morning.

The roadway has been closed since last fall. The other routes closed to vehicles will remain closed until June 1 as planned. Those include a half-mile stretch of Lincoln Park Drive and a one-mile stretch of Seven Bridges Road in Lakeside/Lester Park.
