Moose licking car salt

You really get up close and personal with nature at the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, as this video from Ryan Decker shows.

The 29 year old from Eau Claire had spent the day showshoeing with his father and a family friend when they experienced a close encounter with a Minnesotan moose.

The trio had just finished walking the Centennial trail and were about to head to the Gunflint Trail Center for dinner when the moose took an unexpected interest in their vehicle.

Turns out, the moose had a hankering for some salt lick.

Decker, a probation and parole agent in the State of Wisconsin, told Bring Me The News visits the BWCA "as many times as he can," but the moose encounter was a first for him.

Northeast Minnesota is home to most of Minnesota's moose population, with the results of the annual moose survey for 2019 revealing a slight uptick in moose numbers.

You can find some more photos and videos Decker took here, on the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness Facebook page.
