We may meet Stephen Colbert again soon – but it won't be quite like it's been the past nine years.

Colbert, the mega-popular comedian and soon-to-be host of "The Late Show," ended his news comedy platform "The Colbert Report" Thursday night with a large celebrity sing-along to the tune of "We'll Meet Again"– a joyful and earnest finale for a show (and character) driven for years by satirical political bluster.

Make sure to watch the video above (and click here if you want to see the full episode).

Colbert, now 50 years old, got his start on Jon Stewart's "The Daily Show," thanks in part to a Minnesota woman – Lizz Winstead.

Winstead co-created "The Daily Show" and helped usher in talent such as Colbert and Lewis Black (though she reportedly left after a falling out with previous host Craig Kilborn – who was raised in Hastings, Minnesota).

She's performing a New Year's Eve show in Minnesota – a tradition for the past six years. Click here for details.

Colbert's "Report" show may be over, but he'll be on TV again soon. He's slated to take over for David Letterman on CBS' "The Late Show" sometime next year.

Since the show's airing last night, an outpouring of bittersweet

One of his most prominent Minnesota pieces on "The Colbert Report" was this interview with Rep. Keith Ellison.
