Former KSTP-TV reporter and anchor Vineeta Sawkar is joining the Star Tribune's video news operation as an on-camera host, the publication announced Tuesday.

"I am honored to join some of our state’s finest journalists and to help expand Star Tribune’s video news presence," Sawkar said in a press release. "Without a doubt, some stories are better-suited to visual media, and a growing portion of the Star Tribune audience enjoys that option."

The longtime morning news anchor left KSTP May 1 after being pulled off the anchor desk.

Sawkar, who worked with the station for 18 years, was informed of the change in August.

Word of Sawkar's new job at the Star Tribune comes less than two weeks after the Emmy-winning journalist was hired to host The CW Twin Cities news program "Our Issues Twin Cities."

The 30-minute show -- which features interviews with experts and every day people -- will air every Sunday at 10 a.m. starting June 9.

Sawkar will begin her new job with the Star Tribune in early July.

According to the press release, she will produce and appear in daily features and breaking-news reports on the paper's website, as well as conduct in-depth interviews with journalists and newsmakers.
