Watch: Teaser trailer for spinoff of Coen Bros' 'The Big Lebowski'

"The Jesus Rolls" officially premieres Feb. 28.
Publish date:

It may not technically be a sequel to The Big Lebowski, but it's pretty darn close.

Long talked about but finally (almost) here, "The Jesus Rolls" has both a premiere date and a teaser trailer, which was released this past week. Check it out below:

So, what's it about? Bowling, one would assume, but here's what Screen Media, the movie's distributor, has to say about the story:

"Hours after being released from prison, Jesus Quintana (John Turturro) pairs up with fellow misfits Petey (Bobby Cannavale) and Marie (Audrey Tautou), and embark on a freewheeling joyride of petty crime and romance."

"Jesus Rolls" was co-written and directed by its star, John Turturro, who is reprising his role as Jesus Quintana — though he goes by simply "The Jesus" — 22 years after The Big Lebowski premiered.

In the first film, The Jesus is a sex offender and rival bowler of The Dude, who was played by Jeff Bridges in a now-classic performance.

Now the big question: are Minnesota's own Coen Brothers (who wrote and directed "Lebowski") involved?

No, they didn't work on the movie, but as IndieWire reports, the brothers gave Turturro their blessing to use the character for "his own directorial project."

The film officially premiers on Feb. 28, but makes its Minnesota debut on March 6 in Duluth, according to Screen Media.
