Welcome back, Hollywood: Movie producers reportedly plan Twin Cities shoot

After a long absence, Hollywood is reportedly returning to Minnesota.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, producers of a movie version of the graphic novel "Wilson" plan to begin shooting in Minneapolis in June.

The publication says Woody Harrelson and Laura Dern are in negotiations to star in the Fox Searchlight movie about a grouchy, middle-aged loner who tries to rekindle a relationship with his ex-wife after learning he has a teenaged daughter.

The executive director of the Minnesota Film and TV Board, Lucinda Winter, tells the Pioneer Press the movie's producers have actually been scouting locations in both St. Paul and Minneapolis.

"I know they haven't locked in all their locations, but they've been very happy with everything they've seen in St. Paul," she said.

Not since the Coen brothers made "A Serious Man" in 2009 has a major studio shot a movie in Minnesota, Winter tells the newspaper.

She says the making of "Wilson" will bring about $6 million in spending to the area.

Minnesota offers a 25 percent tax rebate to television and movie producers that film in the state. The incentive nicknamed "snowbate" was under fire from skeptics at the Legislature this year.
