If you're wondering why constant references to donuts are appealing in your timelines on Friday, that's because it's National Donut Day.
Yes, we know every day, week and month is "national" this and "international" that, but we can't help but get involved where donuts are involved.
So where should you be heading to pay tribute to the delicious, deep-fried pastry delight that is the donut/doughnut/beignet?
Unsurprisingly, opinion is split on the matter.
Best in the Twin Cities
In the Twin Cities, there's somewhat of a consensus that A Baker's Wife in the Standish neighborhood of south Minneapolis is top of the pile, with Thrillist referring to it as the "gold standard" of donut shops, and it also ranks No. 1 on Yelp's list.
If you're there, Thrillist recommended the simple (and cheap) cake donut, which "somehow manage to remain not overly sweet and make the perfect companion to a cup of coffee."
MSP Magazine highlighted the Rainbow Road at Cardigan and the Summit Great Northern at Mojo Monkey as two of its favorite donuts in the metro area.
Also worth a shout are the trendy Glam Doll Donuts on Eat Street in Minneapolis, which ranks highest on FourSquare, with Angel Food Bakery in downtown Minneapolis and Bogart's Doughnut Co. in south Minneapolis also highly rated.
