Happy New Year, and goodbye 2020! Here's what's open and closed in Minnesota on New Year's Day.
You won't find many banks open in Minnesota on Friday, with New Year's Day being a federal holiday, including those inside grocery stores. This includes Bremer Bank, TCF Bank, U.S. Bank and Wells Fargo.
It's a federal holiday, so U.S. Post Offices will be closed and there won't be any deliveries.
Malls and stores
New Year's Day is a big shopping day, so most malls, supermarkets and chain stores in Minnesota will be open, though their hours may vary for the holiday.
Check your local store for hours.
Movie theaters will remain closed in accordance with the state's current COVID-19 restrictions.
Metro Transit buses and the light rail will be following holiday schedules, which you can find here. There will be no Northstar rail service on New Year's Day.
The Minnesota Valley Transit Authority will be running weekend schedules on New Year's Day. Other transit providers will be running similarly reduced schedules. Check your local provider for details.
Parking meters will not be enforced in Minneapolis or St. Paul, so street parking is free.
Some meters, such as those at Minneapolis parks, could still require payment, so check the meter before you leave your vehicle.
All local, state and federal services are closed for the day.
If your garbage day falls on New Year's Day, expect it to be picked up on Jan. 2.
