Why did Game of Thrones fans watch ice melt for over an hour?
It's been over eight months since the Game of Thrones season 6 finale, and waiting for the next season has felt at times like staring at a pot, waiting for it to boil.
Or like staring at a giant block of ice, waiting for it to melt. Which is exactly what fans of the show did Thursday, in anticipation of the premiere announcement.
The popular HBO drama revealed the date in a Facebook Live video Thursday. Over two million fans watched a giant block of ice slowly melt to reveal the date for season 7.
Almost there Game of Thrones fans.

And they had to work for it. Viewers were instructed to comment "FIRE" or "DRACARYS," with every post triggering a burst of flames.
As you can imagine, some people were feeling a bit impatient.
Finally, after over an hour, the date emerged from its frozen coffin, and fans around the world had something to look forward to: July 16.
That's only 129 days away.
HBO also unveiled a new poster for the new season, as well as a teaser trailer:
This season is going to be shorter than normal, with seven episodes instead of 10 – and season 8 will be the last.
But fans are excited nonetheless.
