Minneapolis singer Holly Henry isn't the only Minnesotan making waves with the musical bigwigs on network television this week.

The Pioneer Press reports that Winona native Tim Olstad impressed the judges on Fox Television's "The X Factor" Wednesday night.

A 23-year-old restaurant server, Olstad performed Christina Perri's "A Thousand Years," which won the approval of judges Demi Lovato, Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio.

Olstad was visibly nervous in backstage shots with his parents before the performance, and was even shaking a bit while singing.

But that didn't matter to Rowland.

"I feel like your voice just came over me like a blanket of love," Rowland told Olstad. "It was so beautiful."

Olstad came off as very shy in a brief chat before he sang, and struggled to answer a question from Lovato about any instances in his life where he did anything crazy and unexpected.

The question didn't matter, though, after Lovato heard him sing.

"First of all I had the chills when you sang, and I don't get those very often here," Lovato said. "And I don't want you to do anything bad because you're just so loveable. You're just so cute just the way you are."

Rubino agreed with Lovato's assessment, adding, "You're like a little Teddy bear, I want to hug you forever. You nailed it. You did it with your heart."

Judge Simon Cowell was absent for the performance, but returned right after Olstad left the stage to hear from the other judges about the singer he just missed.

"I heard someone who was very good. I could hear someone singing 'A Thousand Years,'" Cowell said.

"Is it just me, or is the talent always better when Simon's not here?" Lovato asked her colleagues.
