Minnesota fiddle player Lloyd Johnson got a much bigger gift than he expected at his 100th birthday party, the Pioneer Press reports.

Johnson, who lives at the Stonecrest Senior Living facility in Woodbury, was surprised at the celebration Wednesday with a chance to play fiddle with violin virtuoso Peter Ostroushko.

Sitting next to Ostroushko, Johnson said, "I have never been so honored in all my life," according to the Pioneer Press.

WCCO says Johnson, a World War II veteran, lives at Stonecrest with his 92-year-old wife.

The idea of inviting Ostroushko to play violin with Johnson came to Stonecrest Recreation Director Renee Vaughan last summer after she asked the resident if any of this lifelong dreams were unfulfilled, the Pioneer Press said.

A Minneapolis native, the 60-year-old Ostroushko has played with the likes of Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris and Willie Nelson. He is also a regular on Garrison Keillor's radio show "A Prairie Home Companion."

The Woodbury Bulletin says Johnson met Ostroushko at a concert in 2005, and has kept his photo with the musician on his bedroom wall ever since.

The Pioneer Press says the standing-room-only crowd at Stonecrest erupted in cheers when Johnson and Ostroushko started playing fiddle classics together.
