A dying Stillwater teenager who gained international acclaim for his musical farewell joined broadcasters from across the region as winners at the 14th annual Upper Midwest Emmy Awards Saturday night in Minneapolis.

According to Stillwater Patch, Zach Sobiech won his posthumous Emmy in the Musical Composition/Arrangement category for his song"Clouds." Sobiech's fans got the word on the Facebook page maintained for the musician. A Firm Handshake Facebook page announced: "Zach and "Clouds" just won a regional Emmy for best Musical Composition/Arrangement!" The song has collected nearly 8 million YouTube views.

The Pioneer Press reported on the broadcast winners, which are determined by the size of the market the stations serve. Almost 50 statues were handed out in both on and off camera categories. Media outlets from Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and western Wisconsin were represented.

In the large market, which includes the Twin Cities, KARE-TV's Julie Nelson won for best anchor. KARE reporter Boyd Huppert won the most awards with 10 honors, including one for writing. KARE also won the award for News excellence, while KMSP won for station excellence.

There was a tie in the award for the top evening newscast in the smaller markets, with WDIO in Duluth and KELO in Sioux Falls, S.D. both earning a Emmy honors. Jennifer Livingston, a TV anchor/reporter at WKBT-TV in La Crosse, Wis., won an Emmy in the "writer -- editorialist/commentator" category for her on-air response to a viewer who criticized her weight. Her response went viral and received national attention.
