1 child dies, another injured in ATV crash near Moose Lake

The juvenile driver of the ATV was not injured.

A boy was killed and a girl was injured when they crashed while riding an ATV. 

The crash happened around 6:20 p.m. on private property near County Road 13 in Moose Lake Township, which is southwest of Duluth along Interstate 35. 

Deputies from the Carlton County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene and found that a girl was driving a side-by-side ATV with two passengers when she lost control on a hill. 

A boy who was a backseat passenger was fatally injured when the ATV rolled on top of him. A girl who was a front seat passenger was taken to Essentia Hospital in Moose Lake with non-life-threatening injuries. 

The juvenile female who was driving the ATV was not injured. 

"The occupants of ATV were not wearing seatbelts or helmets at the time of the crash," a release from the sheriff's office says. 

The ages and identities of the kids involved in the crash have not been released. 

The crash is under investigation.
