One man has died and another is injured after gunfire erupted in north Minneapolis early Saturday morning.

Shots were reported at 3:21 a.m. on the 1000 block of West Lyndale Avenue North, with police arriving to find a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

Officers provided treatment until paramedics took over, but he was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.

Police then received information from witnesses that another person had been shot in the incident and had been driven to a hospital.

North Memorial Medical Center then called to report a man suffering a non-life-threatening gunshot wound had arrived.

"Preliminary investigation yields that a confrontation occurred between two individuals known to each other and it erupted into gunfire," MPD spokesman John Elder said.

Police have launched a homicide investigation, and want anyone with information to call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
