Boy killed in shooting near U of M campus

"The police department is not looking for any additional parties," the MPD said.

UPDATE 10:45 A.M.

Minneapolis Police Department has issued an update stating that the victim in the shooting was a boy, and not a man as first reported.

Original story

One person was killed and another was injured in a shooting in Dinkytown Monday night.

The shooting happened shortly after 11 p.m. on the 400 block of 13th Avenue Southeast, near the popular Burrito Loco restaurant, the Minneapolis Police Department says.

Officers arrived and found a man outside suffering from a gunshot wound, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Another man was found at the scene with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and was taken to a hospital.

The shooting prompted the University of Minnesota to issue a SAFE-U alert, which said the shooting happened at 11:10 p.m. and people should use caution in the area because police had blocked off portions of Dinkytown.

Three guns were recovered at the scene. Police say "there is not believed to be any ongoing threat to public safety and the police department is not looking for any additional parties."

The medical examiner will release the identity of the victim at a later time.

The man's death marks the 17th homicide in Minneapolis this year, according to MPD data
