1 dead, 2 injured in head-on crash caused by wrong-way driver

One person died and two others were injured in a head-on crash that involved a vehicle going the wrong direction late Monday night. 

It happened on Hwy. 2 just before 11:10 p.m. in Beltrami County. According to a crash report from the Minnesota State Patrol, a Subaru Forester was headed east in the westbound lanes when it collided head-on with a Pontiac G6. 

The person killed in the crash was the passenger in the wrong-way vehicle. He's been identified as Russell Klynn Porter, 82, of Bemidji. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 73-year-old Bemidji woman, was taken to a hospital in Fargo with life-threatening injuries. 

The driver of the Pontiac was a 21-year-old Fosston woman. She suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Sanford Medical Center in Bemidji and later released. 

The crash report does not indicate precisely where the crash occurred, only saying it was on Hwy. 2 in Beltrami County.
