A man was killed in a head-on crash in Rochester on Monday evening.
According to Rochester Police Department, a minivan traveling east on 55th St. NW crossed over the median and collided with a Lexus SUV near 26th Ave. NW just before 6 p.m.
The driver of the minivan died in the crash.
He's been identified as Jerome Wickert, 52, of Rochester. Wickert was trapped in the vehicle and needed to be extricated before being treated, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver and passenger of the Lexus were transported to Mayo Clinic Hospital, Saint Marys Campus for treatment. The extent of their injuries are unknown.
Investigators are trying to determine what caused the man driving the van to swerve into the opposite lane.
There have been 116 deaths on Minnesota roads so far in 2019, down from 123 at this same point in 2018, according to the Department of Traffic Safety.
