One person was killed and another man rescued after being thrown off a boat in rough waters on Lake Minnetonka Monday morning.
The incident unfolded around 10:25 a.m., with the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office Water Patrol until summoned to an area of Gideon's Bay where two men were reportedly boating when rough water caused them to be thrown overboard.
One man swam to a buoy where he was rescued by another boater, while the other man's body was recovered by divers shortly after 12:30 p.m., according to the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office.
Neither man was wearing a life jacket, the sheriff's office said.
“Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the person who lost their life in this incident,” Sheriff Dave Hutchinson said. “It is especially tragic when this happens when people are engaged in an activity like boating, which can be so peaceful. The sad lesson of this is the importance of always wearing a life preserver when you are out on the water.”
The incident remains under investigation and the identity of the victim has not been released.
