One man has died and another wounded after a shooting in a busy area of downtown Minneapolis.

Gunshots were heard by police monitoring the area of Hennepin Ave. and N. 5th St. during bar close at 2:18 a.m. Monday.

They headed to an alley between Hennepin and 1st avenues and saw a group of people running from the alleyway. In the alley, they found two men who'd been shot.

Both of them were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where one died shortly after arrival.

A witness identified a man believed to be involved in the shooting, prompting a foot pursuit that ultimately resulted in his arrest. The man, who turned 35-years-old on Monday, has been booked into jail for probable cause murder.

The Minneapolis Police Department has placed a hold on releasing his booking photo for "investigative reasons," and continues to follow up on leads generated by interviews at the scene.

The shooting happened near a busy downtown bar area, with N. 5th St. at Hennepin and 1st avenues home to venues including Sal's on Fifth, Sneaky Pete's, The Brass Rail, Brothers Bar & Grill, and The Loon Cafe.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 1-800-222-TIPS. All calls can be made anonymously.
