A collision between a pickup and a freightliner claimed the life of an 80-year-old man in Meeker County on Thursday.

The crash happened around 11:40 a.m. on Hwy. 15 near 278th St., according to the Minnesota State Patrol, which says the semi was northbound on 15 when it collided with a southbound Ford F-150 that had crossed over the center line.

Driving the 2012 Ford was 80-year-old Lorenz Ray Canfield, of Fairfax, Minnesota. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The collision sent the semi into the ditch where it then rolled into a pond. The driver, a 56-year-old man from Boston, Massachusetts, was not injured.
