One person is dead following a crash and fight in Minneapolis late Thursday night.

Minneapolis police spokesperson John Elder says a rear-end crash was reported just before midnight near 22nd St. W. and Lyndale Ave. S. The driver of one of vehicles fled on foot and was being chased by a passenger from the other car involved in the crash.

Police were informed shortly after the crash that a fight happened on the 2100 block of Aldrich Ave. S. and one person needed medical attention.

On arrival, police found a man in grave condition. They attempted life-saving measures until paramedics arrived and transported him to Hennepin County Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The victim's identity and cause of death will be released at a later date by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office.

One person was arrested at the scene of the fight and taken to the Homicide Unit for an interview, then released pending further investigation, according to Elder.

The Minneapolis Crime Lab is processing evidence collected from the scene.
