A two-vehicle crash before dawn Friday morning south of St. Cloud resulted in one fatality, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
The crash happened around 5 a.m. during snowy conditions on eastbound Interstate 94 near Opportunity Drive. A crash report from the State Patrol says the driver of a 2000 Honda Accord pulled over to the right shoulder and then attempted a U-turn, at which point it was struck by a 2019 Chevy Silverado that was in the left lane of eastbound I-94.
The driver of the Honda, a 42-year-old St. Cloud man, was killed in the crash. His full identity will be released later Friday.
The driver of the Silverado, a 43-year-old Rice man, was transported to St. Cloud Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Eastbound I-94 was closed in advance of Opportunity Drive for a short period before authorities were able to open one lane just prior to 6:30 a.m., with all lanes of traffic re-opening just before 9 a.m.
