One man was killed and another injured in a head-on crash in Brainerd on Thursday.
According to the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office, a head-on crash involving two trucks – a 2015 Chevy pickup an da 2003 Chevy Avalanche – happened at 4:23 p.m. near the intersection fo Wise Road and Sugarberry Creek Road.
The Chevy Avalanche, driven by 61-year-old Daniel Robert Rehberger, of Merrifield, Minensota, rounded a curve and drifted into the westbound lane on Wise Road, where the Chevy pickup struck it head-on.
Rehberger was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other driver, a 48-year-old man from Motley, Minnesota, was transported by ambulance to Essentia Health-St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd for treatment.
Rehberger's death was one of three reported on Minnesota roads on Thursday alone, with the others seeing a 42-year-old Shakopee man killed near Willmar, and a 19-year-old man die in a crash in Wadena County.
There have been at least 350 deaths on Minnesota roads in 2018, according to the Minnesota Department of Traffic Safety.
There were 325 fatalities on state roads at the same point last year, with a final 2017 tally of 358.
Of the 350 killed this year:
- At least 24 were distraction-related.
- 95 were speed-related.
- 109 were alcohol-related.
- 83 were not wearing a seatbelt.
- 58 were motorcyclists, 42 of whom were not wearing a helmet.
- 7 were bicyclists.
- 35 were pedestrians.
