1 dead in officer-involved shooting in Albert Lea

A person was killed when police in Albert Lea opened fire after responding to a 911 call for help on Thursday morning. 

Albert Lea Police Department says officers were dispatched to an alleyway behind the 300 block of Court Street just after 10 a.m. and after locating an individual they fired their weapons, striking and killing the person. 

Life-saving efforts were attempted but proved unsuccessful. 

Details about what the 911 call was about and what led to the officers shooting have not been provided. 

The officers have been placed on standard administrative leave and the investigation is now in the hands of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. 

The victim's identity will be released following an autopsy by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's officer. 

Officers were not wearing body cameras and it's unclear if dash cameras recorded the shooting.
