A 16-year-old girl was fatally ejected from a car that flipped and rolled several times Thursday in central Minnesota, with four other 16 year olds suffering injuries in the crash.
According to the Cass County Sheriff's Office, the group of teens were traveling southbound on 26th Ave. SW just northwest of Pine River when they crashed around 8 p.m.
Deputies and first responders arrived at the scene to find a 1995 Cadillac DeVille that had left the roadway, flipped and rolled. A 16-year-old girl was ejected from the vehicle, and despite lifesaving efforts by first responders, she died at the scene.
A 16-year-old boy from Backus was driving the car. He was sustained unknown injuries and was transported to a hospital in Brainerd for care. Three other passengers, two boys and one girl, were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
The sheriff's office reports that speed appears to be a factor in the crash, also noting that alcohol does not appear to have been involved.
The identities of the victims have not been released.
The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff's office with assistance from the Minnesota State Patrol.
